This section of my blog would reflect my childhood connections
back in Nigeria. It would include descriptions of some of the people that had
an impact in my life growing up as a child. My relationship with them, how they
influenced my life as a child, nurtured and cared for me, how they made me feel
special and their influence continues to reflect in my present life.
As a Child, I grew up surrounded majorly by my immediate family,
school, mosque and some few friends both within my neighborhood and outside it.
I lost my grandparents at an early stage of my life ,some gone before I was born, even those around after my
birth I could hardly remember my relationship with them, I was too little then,
although my parents do tell stories of how they loved and pampered us.
Growing up as a child, so many people had impact in my life, some
I still stay in contact with, some I no longer see or hear from, but their
influences in my life still lingers. Five out of those important people are
My Mother
She is my best friend in the world. She raised me to be who I am
today. She taught me good morals. she taught me to be happy as a person and do not let anyone
determine my happiness. She helped me through my studies in whichever ways
she could. She helped solve my reading difficulties as a child. She paid
attention to my needs .I get more emotional support from her than anyone else. When I am down few words from her lift my
spirit up in ways I cannot explain. she has a good listening hear, so it made
it easy to tell her anything ,I still find it easy to share my feelings with her till
now. Her influence in my life defines my personality. She taught to be patient, respectful and
appreciate people. I am happy for the person she made me to be. She loves
cooking and I enjoy staying with her in the kitchen because I get to have extra
piece of chicken for keeping her company. She taught me to be kind to people. She
constantly calls me , she prays and wishes me the best in my studies. She was
the first person to tell me that teaching was what I love doing, and she had
always supported me all the way. She is truly someone I look up to as a role
model.
My Father
My father has always been a positive driving force in my Education.
He has always paid attention to that aspect of my life in anyway possible. He always
provides everything to make our Education easy, and promised he would go to any
length with me. He loves kids a lot. He would call every one of us together and
tell us stories, sometimes sings and dance with us. Rewards were usually given
to the best participant. He made my childhood more fun and exciting. My father
taught me to be hardworking and self independence. He made me realize there are
challenges in life but it is how you face those challenges and come out strong
that determine who you are. He always frowned against lies. He believes in been
decisive about things. One should always be ready to take bold steps when the
time comes and it is required. I guess I still hold on to that till now. I
would not be a Walden student today if not for him. I will always be grateful for
the opportunity he has given me .
My Elder Sister (Adijat)
She played the role of both a supportive friend and sister. She
guided me through a lot of life experiences. She is always there to caution me
when I attempt taking a wrong step and reminds me that it is not who I am and
that my doing it would only make me unhappy. She always motivated me to do
whatever I want to do. She is someone respect a lot because of her courage and
will power. She challenges herself a lot. She always tells me” if others can do
it, so can you”. Whenever I remember those words it always spurs me to push
myself and work harder. She is my good chat buddy and I always seek advice from
her. I influence in my life cannot be ignored
My grade 5 teacher (Uncle Mike)
He was like a big brother to me; He paid attention to my needs
in class. I was physically small when i was young, so some of my classmate tends to
want to pick on me. Uncle mike always knew when they were disturbing me, and he
always dealt with them. He also encourages me a lot with my studies. My seat
was close to him. He deliberately did this so that I could feel relax, to study
and not worry about those who tries to bully me. He made me develop self
confidence with time to face people who tend not to be nice. He was the first
teacher I admire because of the way he takes care of his students and class.I always remember to treat my learners well when I remember him, so they
can feel free and not scared to come to me when they have a problem. He always says
you can be whatever you set your mind to, just keep working hard towards it. I
loss contact with him after I got into secondary school
My Uncle Leke
My uncle visited a lot when we were young before he travelled
out of Nigeria. He plays with us and sits to watch television with us. He has a
great sense of humor and rarely gets upsets. I like that about him. He often
tells me to smile so I do not grow old. I smile anytime I remember it. Education
was one important thing he always wanted to talk to us about. He also loves to
buy things for me and also give me money. Anytime, he is coming to visit I am
always excited that there would be lots of goodies to go round as well as money
.He is very charitable. I like that a lot about him. He is a kind hearted
person and always tends to help people. He always says if you are lucky to
have, then give some to those who do not, because life is sweeter when your
friend is happy. I learnt a lot from is charitable behavior and I always try to
help whenever I can and in whatever way I can. After he left the country, whenever
he calls he always ask about school work and our goals in life.
